If you are new to this creative writing series, welcome! I will explain what the whole journal entry thing is all about The last weekday of each month, is a time to look back over the month, but not from your point of view! You first need to choose something that will write this and all the remaining journal entries for the year. It may be your cat. It may be a tree. It may even be a rock. Simply choose a character to follow along the year’s journey. Now, look back over May and think about some unique things this particular month held; Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day. The things you choose to focus on will depend on your character. Next, sum up your character’s May activities or outlooks in 3-10 sentences. May marks the onset of stretches of warm weather in Wisconsin. (Not hot usually but that’s fine with me!) Benzi’s journal was filled with lounging in the shade marked with intermittent squirrel and shrew chasing and bouts of extreme wrestling matches with Vislet. For an Arkansas rescue, she strangely prefers the cool of Wisconsin.

Dog. Squirrel in tree. Plain and simple. Except this time tell me what the squirrel thinks about the whole situation… I’m quite sure I heard one snickering at my dogs the other day.

Dog. Squirrel in tree. Trying to take your dog for a walk when there is a squirrel in a tree. We covered the dog’s and the squirrel’s thoughts. Now look at the scenario from the point of view of the dog’s owner! Perhaps they are better at getting a basset mix to listen…
