Monthly puppy naming time!!! This time there is a fuzzy litter of Siberian Husky puppies! This gorgeous, high energy breed is well known for being sled dogs. In fact, it was a husky team that traveled over 600 miles to get medicine to the people in Nome during a diphtheria outbreak in 1925. You may have even heard of Balto, one of the lead dogs. Make a list of things related to sled dogs and snowy northern landscapes. Would 5 of those words make good puppy names? You have 3 boys and 2 girls in this litter to find blustery names for! Have fun! Share your favorite name in the comments!
Time to create a character! Since it’s January, a snowman seemed like a fitting choice. In 4-8 sentences, bring your snowman to life! You may wish to include such things as his name, where he lives, his personality, what he likes to wear… and whatever else would define your chilly friend! Keep your description for tomorrow’s spark! Introduce me to him in the comments! I would love to meet him.
Well your snowman does!! He has quite the dilemma! What does a snowman do if he doesn’t like the cold!? That’s for you to figure out. Using your character from yesterday, write 4-8 sentences explaining how your friend finds a solution to his predicament!
Did you know there are different kinds of snow? I can think of at least two categories. There is the soft fluffy snow that blows in wispy, whirling tornadoes across the lake. It drifts copiously and does a fluffer kind of thing as you walk through it. Then there is the wet heavy snow that sticks wondrously to things- even itself! It frequently falls in big snowflakes that have joined together on their journey to decorate the earth. It crunches under your feet as it compacts. This is snowman making snow! This stuff sticks to itself so perfectly that when rolled across a lawn, it accumulates into a heavy white ball…or three, in the case of snowman building. It seems silly that we look outside and say,”Oh! It’s snowing?”I think we need to differentiate because my plans for the afternoon will be totally different depending on the type. You simply cant make a fort or snowman out of fluff! It poofs into the wind leaving you empty-mittened. Your job today is to come up with 5 words that describe the wet sticky snow. Now arrange, combine, and add whatever you need to make up a new word. Snowman across the globe will thank you for it! I would rather use one word than five, so let me know what you came up with in the comments!
If you are new to this creative writing series, welcome! I will explain what the whole journal entry thing is all about The last weekday of each month, is a time to look back over the month, but not from your point of view! You first need to choose something that will write this and all the remaining journal entries for the year. It may be your cat. It may be a tree. It may even be a rock. Simply choose a character to follow along the year’s journey. Now look back over January and think about some unique things this particular month held. Things like New Year’s Day, or a blizzard, or ice skating. The things you choose to focus on will depend on your character. Next, sum up your character’s January activities or outlooks in 3-10 sentences. My puppies, Benzi and Vislet, LOVE their walks on the lake so I’m sure that would find it’s way into their journals!
